De aqui y de alla. From here and there.
As a child of divorce, I never felt “at home” as I moved back and forth from my parents’ houses weekly, unpacking and repacking my belongings like a movie-star who lives in and out of hotel rooms. Living a double life became a normal for me, whether it was between my parents’ houses or through different cultures.
Growing up Mexican American meant settling my roots in the crack of the sidewalk; in between. Aging has only made me more grateful for the time I set aside to exercise my creativity while I struggled to find love within myself. It has always been a goal of mine to re-connect with the strong indigenous roots of my Mexican heritage and my art is that gateway.
